On November 18, Dr. John Bearoff and Mark Bernardin presented the Masonic Model Student Assistance Program to a room full of Ohio’s prevention specialists at the Ohio Prevention and Education Conference. The group was introduced to the Model, and they were able to guide one of their schoolchildren through an abbreviated version of the intervention process.
Dr. Bearoff is both a Licensed Psychologist in private practice, and a Certified School Psychologist. He is also a lead trainer of the Masonic Model Student Assistance Program. John spent 24 years working in Pennsylvania public schools, including 12 years as a junior high science teacher. In 1987, John became responsible for initiating and developing the North Penn School District's Drug and Alcohol Intervention and Alternative Education and Suicide Prevention programs, all of which were widely recognized as both innovative and effective. He also was the SAP Coordinator of four teams, assisting 13,000 students in the district.
The goal for the annual Ohio Prevention and Education Conference is to revitalize and build on the existing capacity of Ohio’s prevention workforce to enhance the delivery of evidence-based prevention strategies in the places where people work, live, learn, and recreate. The conference provides workshops that demonstrate evidence-based prevention practices.
