Meet the Grand Master 2023-2024 Paul A. Weglage

Most Worshipful Brother Paul A. Weglage was born in 1952 in Dayton, Ohio, to William and Esther Weglage. He was raised in a Masonic family. His grandfather, father, great uncles, uncles, and cousins were and are members of the fraternity. He is a graduate of The Ohio State University.

He married his first wife, Carolyn, on July 31, 1976, and had two children from that marriage, Allison and Joanna. Sadly, on February 16, 1990, Carolyn passed away. He remarried, in 1996, to Karen and that marriage brought 2 additional children into the fold, Tami and Adam. Between the two families they have 8 grandchildren. On January 16, 2003, his youngest daughter, Joanna, lost her life due to a car accident.

Most of his working career was in the insurance industry. He started his insurance career at Metropolitan Property and Liability Insurance Company in 1977, then associated with Hedges Gallery of Insurance Agency in 1985. During his tenure at Hedges Gallery of Insurance he served on various advisory committees to the insurance companies they represented. He served for 6 years as a trustee of the Professional Insurance Agents Association of Ohio, which was the trade association for insurance agents. He purchased the agency after the principal owner died in 1990 and sold it in 2015 and retired in 2017 from that industry.

Masonic Record
Brother Weglage was raised in Conservancy Lodge No. 661 on April 10, 1980, and served as its Worshipful Master for the 1983 – 1984 lodge year. Conservancy Lodge merged with 3 other lodges in 2000 creating Millennium Lodge No. 779. He served that lodge as its Worshipful Master for the 2004 – 2005 lodge year. He later served as a District Education Officer, District Deputy Grand Master and District Advisor for the Second Masonic District, having been first appointed by M.W.B. Bradford A. Goebel in 2011. In 2016 he was appointed Junior Grand Deacon of the Grand Lodge of Ohio by Most Worshipful Brother Douglas N. Kaylor. He progressed through the line until elected Grand Master in 2023.

Brother Weglage joined the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in April 1981. In 2004 he began serving in the officer line of Dayton Chapter of Rose Croix, serving as the Most Wise Master 2014 to 2016. On September 1, 2015, he was coroneted a 33º Sovereign Grand Inspector General and Honorary Member of the Supreme Council for the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.

Brother Weglage is a member of Trinity Chapter No. 44, Royal Arch Masons of Ohio; Adoniram Council No. 131, Royal & Select Masons of Ohio; Reed Commandery No. 6, Knights Templar of Ohio; Antioch Shrine, Shriners International having served as its Chaplain in 2013 to 2015. He is a member of the Past Master’s Club, Funtastics Character Unit, Gun Club, ROJ Court 10 and an associate member of the Kentucky Colonels. He is also a member of the Ohio Lodge of Research; an associate member of Dayton Chapter of National Sojourners; and a member of the following appendant organizations: Provincial Grand Chapter of Royal Order of Scotland of the United States of America; Miami Valley York Rite College No. 193; Ohio College Societas Rosecruciana; Past Sovereign Master of Thomas Smith Webb Council No. 57, Allied Masonic Degrees; Grand College of Rites of the United States of America; Ormus Grotto, Grottos International, and the Philalethetes Society.
