The Masonic Bodies of Athens County have recently participated in assisting a local area girl, with Cerebral Palsy, in purchasing a handicapped accessible van. The girl, Sarah Brozak is 17 years old. She lives in Guysville with her mother and sister. The van is used to transport Sarah to various events. The funding request was organized by Mary Kay Eastman and Maureen Wootton, Sarah's physical and occupational therapists. Maureen is the wife of Paramuthia 25 Senior Warden, Michael Wootton.
The assistance in funding came from the following Masonic organizations: Athens Chapter 175 Order of Eastern Star donated $2500.00 and The Grand Lodge of Ohio Charitable Foundation donated $2000.00 towards the van purchase. Savannah Lodge 466 donated funds and held, with Amesville Lodge 278, a fund raising Spaghetti Dinner at the Federal Hocking High School. Athens York Rites Bodies (Chapter, Council and Commandery) also participated by donating funds. The Athens Masonic Temple was used as a location for a birthday party for Sarah as well as a Celebration Party for the different organizations involved in the fund raising for the Van Fund. This was an excellent example of cooperation of the several Masonic Bodies of Athens County.
