M. W. Brother Voorhees was born in Coshocton, Ohio, December 23,1866. Following his graduation from the high school there, he entered the service of the United States Government in its Pension Department in Columbus, where he continued until 1887, at which time he entered Wooster University, Wooster, Ohio. He later attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he received the degree of L.L.B. in June, 1893.
In December 1892, he was admitted to the practice of law by the Supreme Court of Ohio in Columbus, and so continued for more than fifty-five years, retiring in 1949. From his early youth, he has been a member of the Franklin Park Methodist Church, Columbus, Ohio.
He was initiated an Entered Apprentice in Coshocton Lodge No. 96, Coshocton, Ohio, August 26, 1892; Passed, September 9, 1892; and was Raised September 23, 1892. He dimitted to Magnolia Lodge No. 20 in April 1898. He served as Worshipful Master in the year 1916.
He received the Mark and Past Master Degrees in July, 1893, and Most Excellent Master and Royal Arch Degrees in Samaritan Chapter No. 50, R. A. M., Coshocton, Ohio, and dimitted to Ohio Chapter No. 12, R. A. M., Columbus, Ohio, in April, 1898. He received the Royal and Select Master Degrees and was greeted as Super-Excellent Master in Columbus Council No.8, R. & S. M., in 1898. He received the several orders of Knighthood in Mount Vernon Commandery No.1, K. T., in June 1898, and served as Eminent Commander in 1906.
He was elected Grand Standard Bearer in the Grand Commandery, K. T., of Ohio in 1908. He filled successive positions in that body until he was elected Rt. Eminent Grand Commander in October 1916.
In the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, he received the Degrees in Enoch Lodge of Perfection in November 1909; Franklin Council; Princes of Jerusalem; Columbus Chapter of Rose Croix in April 1910; and Scioto Consistory in April 1911, in the Valley of Columbus, Ohio. He was crowned Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 33°, and Honorary Member of the Supreme Council, September 19, 1916, at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
In the Grand Lodge he served two years as District Lecturer for the Fourteenth District. Served as Grand Orator in 1919; as Junior Grand Warden in 1920; as Senior Grand Warden in 1921; as Deputy Grand Master in 1922; and on October 18, 1923, was elected Most Worshipful Grand Master.
He was also a member of Aladdin Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S., of Columbus.
Death brought to a close the life of our Past Grand Master, M. W. Brother Campbell Marion Voorhees, who died at his home in Columbus, Ohio, On April 14, 1955. Funeral services were held privately on April 16, 1955.
M. W. Brother Voorhees remains were cremated and presented to his family.
