M. W. Brother Harry Guy Gram was born October 17, 1877, at Dayton, Ohio, son of Cornelius L. Gram and Rebecca S. Gram. His parents moved to Springfield, Ohio when he was one year old, and he lived in that city the remainder of his life. He was educated in the common schools and high school of Springfield, graduated from Wittenberg College in 1901 with an A. B. Degree, studied law in the office of General J. W. Keifer, who was twice a member and former Speaker of the National House of Representatives, and attended Cincinnati Law School in 1903-1904. He was admitted to the Ohio Bar in December 1904, and also admitted to practice in the United States District and Supreme Courts. From 1905 to 1910 he served as private secretary to General J. W. Keifer while the latter was a member of louse of Representatives of the United States. He was court reporter for the Common Pleas Court of Clark County, Ohio, from 1920. In 1920 he was elected Probate Judge of Clark County.
On July 27, 1905, Brother Gram was united in marriage to Bertha A. Tibbetts who was his devoted life companion until her death several years prior to the passing of Brother Gram.
In his chosen profession of the law Brother Gram had distinguished himself in all of the various areas in which he had served, most outstanding of which was his service as Probate Judge in Clark County, Ohio. During his lifetime he served on many State and County committees and various Boards giving freely and unselfishly of time and talents.
M. W. Brother Gram was interested and intensely active in the various and community organizations in Springfield, among which were Wittenberg University where he served as a member of the Board Trustees; the YMCA; Clark County Chapter of the American Red Cross; Springfield Chamber of Commerce; Boy Scouts of America; Springfield Community Fund; Springfield Civic Theater; and the Springfield Recreation Commission. He was a life-long member and vestryman of Christ Episcopal Church in Springfield, and held membership in the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
M. W. Brother Gram was initiated an Entered Apprentice on June 27, 1911, passed to the degree of Fellowcraft, July 11, 1911 and raised to the Sublime degree of master Mason on October 30, 1911 in Clark Lodge No. 101 F. & A. M., Springfield, Ohio; Springfield Chapter No. 48 R. A. M.; Springfield Council No. 17 R. & S. M.; Palestine Commandery No. 53, R. T.; and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of the Valley of Dayton. He was an Honorary 33° member of the Supreme Council of the A. A. S. R., Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.
The Grand Lodge of F. & A. M. of Ohio elected Brother Gram to the station of Grand Master on October 16, 1930. His outstanding contributions to Freemasonry in Ohio are legion. One of the most important areas of his service to the Grand Lodge was as Chairman of the Jurisprudence Committee for many years. Perhaps of equal importance was the 20 years of dedicated service that Brother Gram gave to The Ohio Masonic Home as a member of the Board of Trustees, having been first appointed to that position by the Grand Master in 1949.
Death came to M. W. Brother Gram; November 11, 1969 at Springfield, Ohio and his body interred in the Ferncliff Cemetery, Section K, Lot 15, Springfield, Ohio.
