1958 – Andrew John White Jr.

Andrew John White, Jr. was born August 3, 1901 in East St. Louis, Ill., the son of Anna (Von Nida) and Andrew J. White. The family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he attended Hughes High School, and later moved to Columbus, Ohio and graduated from East High School, He received his B. S. Degree in 1923 and his L. L. B. Degree in 1926 from Ohio State University.

He was joined in matrimony to Dorothy Mildred Veach in 1927 and to this union was born a daughter, and a son.

Reared a Baptist, he affiliated with the Lutheran Church after marriage and rose to Treasurer and member of the Executive Board of the Ohio Synod. He was also a Director of Wittenberg University from 1965-68, from which he received an honorary doctorate in 1965, a member of the Board of Theological Education, Lutheran Church in America and of the Board of Directors, Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia since 1962.

M. W. Brother Andrew White was raised in York Lodge No. 563 F. & A.M. Columbus, November 13, 1922, and served as its Worshipful Master in 1936-37. Exalted in York Chapter No. 200 R. A. M., greeted in York Council No. 115, R. & S. M. and knighted in Columbus Commandery No. 69, K. T., in 1923, serving as Eminent Commander of the latter in 1942-43. He received the Scottish Rite Degrees in the Valley of Columbus in November 1940, serving as Sovereign Prince of Franklin Council, Princes of Jerusalem, from 1956 to 1959 and was crowned an honorary member of the Supreme Council, 33°, in 1950.

He served as District Deputy Grand Master of the 14th District of Ohio before starting in the Grand Lodge line in 1950. He served the Grand Lodge of Ohio as Grand Master, in its sesqui-centennial year of 1957-58, becoming Grand Secretary in 1959. He was also a member of St. Jerome Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine, Aladdin Temple, A. A. O. N. M. S., President of the Masonic Relief Association of the U.S. and Vice-president of the Philalethes Society.

In addition to his law practice as senior partner of the firm of Knepper, White, Richards and Miller, his church and Masonic work he served 11 years as councilman, was a former mayor and present clerk of the Village of Marble Cliff. Other memberships included Gamma Eta Gamma Law fraternity, Columbus, Ohio State and American Bar Associations, and was a fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers and president of the Franklin County Law Library Association.

Interment was in King Cemetery, Middlepoint, Ohio, where graveside services were held March 6, 1970. A memorial service was held March 7, 1970 in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Columbus, where he held membership. The services were conducted by the Rev. John W. Rilling, President of the Synod of Ohio, Lutheran Church in America, using the appropriate passage II Samuel, 3: 38, “Know ye not that there is a prince and a great man fallen this day in Israel”.
