1984 – Charles Rolland Lattanner

Charles Rolland Lattanner was born at Montpelier in Williams County, Ohio, June 26, 1923, the son of Blair and Mildred Lattanner. He attended Montpelier Public Schools, graduating from Montpelier High School in 1941.

He volunteered for the U.S. Navy in February 1943, and served aboard the U. S. S. Pollux in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and South Pacific until April 1946. In April 1951, he was recalled to the service and served aboard the U. S. S. Adirondack in the Mediterranean until August 1952.

In June 1946, he entered Ohio University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in June 1949. After graduation, he was employed by the Nationwide Life Insurance Company and is presently the Life Accounting Division Manager in the Office of Finance.

On March 4, 1951, he married Joy Gears; also an Ohio University graduate. They are the parents of three children – Eric, Lori, and Lynn.

Both Rolland and Joy are members of the Linworth United Methodist Church where he has served as Sunday School Superintendent, lay leader, and Chairman of the Administrative Board of the Linworth Church. He has also served as a lay leader and lay speaker in the United Methodist North Columbus District. In the Dublin, Ohio area, he has served as treasurer of the Dublin Athletic Boosters and as a Scoutmaster and advancement chairman of the Boy Scouts.

M. W. Brother Lattanner was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in New England Lodge No.4, Worthington, on October 30, 1962 and served as Worshipful Master in 1971. He was exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Horace W. Wright Chapter No. 226 on January 11, 1969. He was received in West Gate Council No. 129 on May 20,1977, and was knighted in Mt. Vernon Commandery No.1, October 1, 1977.

In October 1974, he became a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus. He participates in the 21st and 29th degrees. In September 1982, at St. Louis, he was Coroneted an Honorary Member of the Supreme Council, 33°, A. A. S. R.

Other memberships include the Trowel Club, which he served as president in 1968-1969, and the Aladdin Shrine A. A. O. N. M. S. He is an Honorary Member of the Legion of Honor, International Order of DeMolay. He also serves as the Grand Representative of The Grand Lodge of Michigan near The Grand Lodge of Ohio.

He served as a District Education Officer for the 14th Masonic District in 1973 and as a District Deputy Grand Master in 1974, 1975 and 1976.

In October 1977, Most Worshipful Brother Jerry C. Rasor appointed him to the office of Junior Grand Deacon. He was subsequently appointed Senior Grand Deacon, Grand Marshal and Grand Orator.

He was elected Senior Grand Warden in 1981 and Deputy Grand Master in 1982. On October 22, 1983, he was elected and installed in Cleveland as Grand Master of Masons in Ohio.
