1987 – Robert Earl See

Robert Earl See was born April 15, 1934 in Monroe Township, Pickaway County, Ohio to Thurman E. and Helen See. He attended Monroe Township School in Pickaway County and graduated in 1951.

In December of 1956 he was married to Arlena Finch in the Five Points United Methodist Church in Monroe Township. This union produced two children, a daughter and a son, they have four grandchildren.

Upon graduation, Most Worshipful Brother See was employed by the General Electric Company. He joined the U.S. Army in 1956 and received an honorable discharge. He returned to General Electric following his military service until 1961, when he joined the Robertson Fence Company of Mt. Sterling, Ohio as its Sales Manager. 10″1990, he joined the management team of Byers Fence Company of Columbus. In 1996 Bob joined the staff at the Ohio Masonic Home as Director of the Independent Living Department. This department ultimately became Masonic Retirement Village, Inc where he was elected President. In that capacity, he oversaw the construction of Cunningham Place while attending to the other duties of his office. He retired in September of 1998. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Masonic Home for nine years prior to accepting the position with Masonic Retirement Village.

Our dear Brother served as a Trustee and Chairman of the Board of the Five Points United Methodist Church, where he and his family are members. For twenty-five years, he was active in Little League Baseball, organized a local Boy Scout Troop, and was active in many community and school organizations. When there was work to be done, he did it. He served as Township Clerk of Monroe Township for more than twenty years.

Most Worshipful Brother See was raised a Master Mason on April 14,1964 in Heber Lodge No. 501 in Williams port, Ohio. He served as Worshipful Master in 1971.

In the York Rite, Companion See was exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Circleville Chapter No. 20 on May 4,1968, was received in Tyrian Council No. 60 in Circleville on May 6, 1968 and was created a Knight Templar in Scioto Commandery No. 20 in Circleville on March 11, 1982.

He became a member of the four coordinate bodies; Enoch Lodge of Perfection, Franklin Council, Princes of Jerusalem, Columbus Chapter of Rose Croix and Scioto Consistory, of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus in April, 1970. Our Illustrious Brother held office and was a cast member of several of the Scottish Rite Degrees and was crowned a 33° honorary member of the Supreme Council of the AASR, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.

In December of 1982 he became a member of Aladdin’ Shrine, A. A. O. N. M. S. in Columbus. He was a member of that Temple’s Kentucky Colonels Shrine Club. On July 26, 1986 he received the International Order of DeMolay, Honorary Legion of Honor.

Most Worshipful Brother See served as President of the Eighth Masonic District Officer’s Association, he was appointed a District Deputy Grand Master by Most Worshipful Brothers Daniel F. Iceman and Charles A. Brigham, Jr. in 1979 and 1980 respectively. In October of 1980 he was appointed, by Most Worshipful Grand Master Edgar L. Miller to serve this Grand Lodge as its Junior Grand Deacon. He was subsequently appointed Grand Marshal and Grand Orator. He was elected Junior Grand Warden in 1983, Senior Grand Warden in 1984 and Deputy Grand Master in 1985. On October 18, 1986, in Cincinnati Most Worshipful Brother Robert E. See became the Grand Master of Masons in Ohio.

Most Worshipful Brother Robert Earl See passed away on April 17, 1999 at The Arbors of London, Rehabilitation facility in London, Ohio. Masonic Services were conducted by the members of Heber Lodge No. 501 on April 19, 1999. Funeral Services were held on April 20,1999 under the direction of The Porter Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling, Ohio. Our Beloved Brother was laid to rest at the Spring Lawn Cemetery in Williamsport, Ohio.

The vigor and enthusiasm with which he lived his life, his wit and storytelling talent will long be remembered by the Masons of Ohio who loved and revered him.
